There is almost no human being on Earth who wouldn’t like to have something changed or improved on their body. People’s desire to look and feel better is something that can come true. Of course, sometimes with a help of specialists. Plastic surgeons, to be more precise.
Increase of popularity
Since the first cleft palate surgery, performed in 1827, plastic surgery has kept on improving and evolving, alongside technology and medical science as their significant component, but also as an independent business. Up to 1997, non-surgical procedures, such as Botox and DOT therapy, were relatively new offers on the market. The number of people undergoing these procedures across America was far away from even a million. However, in the recent years, that number has increased to unbelievable ten million.
Surgical procedures have also shown a significant increase over the last couple of years. In this case, too, the reason for the increase can be found in safer and improved procedures and lower price. Of course, the fact that it is easier today to find a clinic that offers these procedures is one reason more.
Breast augmentation and liposuction are still the most wanted procedures of all, and are not surprising or unknown to the wider pubic at all. Nevertheless, there are some procedures these days on the market that were not expected to become popular some ten years ago. They are firmly making their way to the top as some of the most popular treatments today.
Buttock augmentation
After Kim Kardashian and her pictures from November 2014, nothing was the same anymore for cosmetic surgery trends. Buttock augmentation had its biggest increase that same year, according to American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and it’s probably thanks to this lady. The percentage of buttock enlargement surgeries was over 85% higher than the previous year, based on the reports of various plastic surgeons. However, even though Kardashian’s rear was one of the biggest hypes in the Internet’s history, some of the America’s prominent surgeons believe this type of plastic surgery will be a short-term attraction.
Fat – the fountain of youth
Another surprising part of body where “more is better” is face. More precisely, adding your own fat to your face seems to have rejuvenating effect. Who would have known? What fat actually does to your face is that it changes the position of the elastic fibers under the skin, making you look younger. It is no secret that people lose their face volume as they get old, and some “fat magic” is just what they need. It is a treatment that is still being researched in more detail, but it will definitely become more popular in time, as some of the renowned plastic surgeons expect. Its advantage is that it is one of the non-surgical procedures and there is a really small chance of any allergies, since your own fat has been used, but you have to bear in mind that its effect is only temporary.
Labia procedures
If you think the previously mentioned plastic procedures were unusual, think again – throughout the recent years, labiaplasty (reducing or changing the inner labia of female genitalia) has been doubled. Even though this procedure isn’t a new one, it is growing in popularity simply because more women are becoming aware of its existence. As plastic surgeons Sydney indicate, there are women who think their labia is just too big for a swimsuit or would feel more comfortable while running if they reduce it. And of course, there are women who simply don’t like the way their labia look like. The other possibility is to make labia look younger by injecting fat. In this case, the older the woman is, the better this procedure will work, that is, the labia will look more youthful. This procedure is also less invasive than labiaplasty, as it doesn’t include surgical shaping of the labia.
The next step
So, what can we expect from the plastic surgery evolution from now on?
As fat reduction is still the most wanted treatment, there are surely some new procedures for this problem coming our way. Let’s just mention CoolSculpting, a procedure where fat cells are targeted and then cooled, thus destroying them. Or there is another extreme, where you can get rid of extra fat by using radio waves. Alongside the already known laser procedures, these treatments are clear examples of how technology radically changes the perception that general public has of plastic surgery.
The big advantage of these procedures is the fact that they are less and less invasive, and also more and more affordable to wider population, making them increasingly popular each year. In the years to come, new treatments will definitely continue to surprise us and offer us new ideas how to change or improve our looks.
