Losing weight is a lot easier than people think. It’s all about cutting back on your caloric intake. However, this doesn’t mean that you can indulge in a McDonald’s menu and eat nothing for the rest of the day. When it comes to getting back in shape, people should understand that there needs to be some sort of balance between food and lifestyle. The food that you put inside your body will reflect on the outside. As for your lifestyle, the more active it is the better chances you have to look good too. So try out the following tips which can help you in choosing the right food for your body.
Delicious food doesn’t have to be high in carbohydrates
Let’s face it, carbs are delicious! And we’re particularly referring to those bad carbs that we get from junk food, fizzy drinks and sweets. Many people indulge in a quick fix while at work in the hopes that their bodies will stay full for the rest of the day. Sadly, that vanilla donut you just had for breakfast won’t keep you happy for long, and here’s why:
Carbs are a vital source of energy that the body transforms into glucose (sugar) when eaten. Glucose is used to fill the cells with fuel and thus keep our muscles and brain active. However, not all carbohydrates are good, and some of the most “delicious” are also the most dangerous to our health. Rather than have pasta with creamy white sauce for dinner, choose whole wheat pasta, lentils, and beans.
Flavorful food can be low in calories
There are so many diets available nowadays that it’s often difficult to just pick one. Some are low-carb, others are high-carb. Regardless, what we’re trying to say is that food can be flavorful even if it is not made with a ton or salt, fat or added sugar. The key is to adhere to several simple rules:
- Use olive oil (or butter) when cooking food
- Use pink, Himalayan salt – which is a bit more expensive but a lot healthier
- Get to know more about spices – these are excellent to add flavor to your recipes without making them high in calories
- Quick red meat and stick to white meat and fish
- Include salads into your daily menu and add yoghurt as dressing
Juice up your fruits and veggies
Preparing your body for the summer doesn’t have to be that challenging. Of course, you will have to give up refined sugar and junk food. Many still believe that losing weight is tough because low-carb food doesn’t taste just as good as high-carb food. Believe it or not, the rumors are wrong especially now that the web is packed with great food blogs with tips on how to cook delicious without losing any of flavors.
First of all, you should start by stocking your fridge with lots of fruits and veggies. Leafy greens, beans, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, are all excellent choices. As for the fruits, stay away from the sweet ones and go for seasonal choices – watermelons, grapefruit, pomelo, lemons, strawberries, and oranges.
Now if you don’t have a juicer you should get one right away. A delicious morning smoothie can be made of spinach, berries, coconut water, and bananas. It’s healthy, flavorful and it doesn’t pack a lot of calories either. The secret to eating right is not about setting unbreakable rules. Allow yourself an unhealthy treat every now and then, and you’ll be even more motivated to keep going and have your body all set for the summer.
Switch to protein
If you’re not a huge fan of healthy carbohydrates, you could switch to protein. There are lots of delicious choices available. Fish and sea food in general are an excellent choice. Include more dairy products into your diet, as well as eggs. This way your body won’t need carbohydrates form pasta any longer, and it will grab the needed energy from protein. This way your body will get all the carbohydrates that are good for health including a good amount of protein that will be helpful restoring the energy lost while workout sessions.
Last but not least, it is important that you also adhere to a workout routine. A workout routine helps you in burning the extra calories and following it with a proper diet schedule will help in gaining the energy back. A workout routine doesn’t have to be the toughest plan; if you’re not into weight lifting or you don’t like running, go for Pilates or Yogalates. These are excellent routines; they’re light and relaxing, not to mention that they can tone and shape your body beautifully if combined with proper food. But a regular routine is necessary to be followed. Uneven routines cannot get the desired results.
