Mesotherapy.
It’s not a word that rolls off the tongue easily, but it’s a word that’s fast sending ripples through the world of cosmetic procedures – particularly in France where it is widely used to remove fat deposits.
“But this is just another one of those “tummy-tuck” gimmicks,” I hear you cry.
Not quite. Uncontrolled weight gain can be a serious problem for some people, and one that be crippling to a person’s quality of life. And in some cases, conventional weight loss fitness and nutrition plans just aren’t enough so people turn to plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction when all else has failed. Unfortunately, many of these plastic surgery procedures are incredibly invasive, expensive, and ineffective at providing a long term weight loss solution.
But mesotherapy is a new weight loss procedure in the U.S. that is proposed as an alternative to plastic surgery that could change all of that.
What Is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy uses microinjections of special vitamins, minerals – and in some cases pharmaceuticals – to achieve certain plastic surgery results without the invasive nature.
The procedure was introduced by Dr. Michel Pistor in 1952 and has increased in popularity in recent years. But its use in other parts of the world has been well documented since it’s inception. In fact, since 1952, approximately 15,000 doctors in France and South America have been using mesotherapy to treat cellulite and spot weight reduction in place of plastic surgery.
The microinjections consist of a range of conventional or homeopathic compounds that depend on what your doctor is trying to treat — i.e. cellulite or fat. Generally, these compounds include a combination of medications such as aminophylline and Novocain, plant extracts, and vitamins – all of which are FDA-approved for their original use, but unfortunately not for use in mesotherapy – yet. As such, there is no insurance cover for this procedure.
Whether you’re wanting an alternative to plastic surgery weight loss or to improve the appearance of your skin, results are promising.
According to Marion Shapiro, a former emergency doctor turned cosmetic weight loss expert who uses mesotherapy in her practice, she sees “spectacular results in 95% of mesotherapy patients.”
Shapiro explains that mesotherapy works with your body – stimulating natural collagen generation and healthy cell rejuvenation – rather than creating further trauma from skin lesions and surgical intrusion. Tiny injections of weight loss compounds are carefully directed to the middle layer of the skin – the mesoderm – in order to affect change in the fat cells within your body. After the fat is “melted” during the procedure, it is naturally excreted by your body.
What are the Uses of Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is typically used as a form of body contouring used to eliminate cellulite, dissolve fat cells, and aid in your weight loss efforts. Then, as another healthy side-effect, mesotherapy is able to help reduce aging and sagging skin and revitalize skin on sensitive areas such as the hands or the neck.
- Weight loss: Mesotherapy injections can aid weight loss by supplying ingredients that fight fat in specific areas of the body.
- Reducing cellulite: Mesotherapy is often employed in an attempt to eliminate excess fat deposits which can cause cellulite, improve your circulation, and make your connective tissue stronger.
- Body contouring: As mentioned, mesotherapy can be used to add definition to popular trouble spots of your body including the legs, arms, hands, back and abdomen. The amino acid and vitamin ingredients work with your hormones and metabolic system to extract excess fat and tighten up loose skin.
- Hair regrowth: Yes, it can even be used to treat a hair loss condition known as alopecia – a condition which often results from high levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), poor circulation, and nutritional deficiency.
Really, I see promising use of mesotherapy as an additional boost to an already healthy diet, active lifestyle, and other professional medical treatments for severe cases of weight loss, hair loss, and cellulite removal. But additional research and use could change my views in future.
Can Mesotherapy Really Replace Cosmetic Surgery?
Potentially.
According to industry experts such as Shapiro, mesotherapy can be used to treat everyone – from obese people needing fat removal treatment around the trunk, abdomen, buttocks, arms, and legs, to everyday people who are generally thin but frustrated with their looks.
While some patients report seeing results after the first treatment, the majority of people report seeing results such as a drop in dress size or number of belt notches after approximately four treatments. And the results you do see are permanent – provided that you don’t gain the weight back straight back due to unhealthy lifestyle choices.
Over to you. Have you considered cosmetic surgery as a way to repair or improve your body, and would you consider alternatives such as Mesotherapy? Leave a comment below!
