There is no better place to be during the summer months then outside. But sometimes we feel like there is nothing to do and just sitting in the sun isn’t really that great of an option. So to take all the excuses not to go outside away from you, here are some great activities to keep you occupied outdoors over the hot summer months.
Dust off that bicycle
There is no better feeling than cycling through nature on a hot summer day. Light wind, beautiful scenery and a quality workout. What more could you want. Just be certain you bring enough water and a few power bars, after all it is summer, and the temperatures are not forgiving even in the forest. Finally, make sure you have the basic gear if you need to fix something, especially if you are planning to hit the dirt road and do some adrenaline pumping off-road cycling.
Don’t avoid the water
Going to the beach or the pool is the best way to cool off and get out of the house during the summer months. You can opt to start your day with a good swim or enjoy some of the family activities during the day. The options are quite numerous and there is no better way to get through a host summer day them spending it in a body of water. Just make sure you have waterproof sunscreen as we tend to burn more in the water then out of it.
Get your skate on
Skating isn’t just for kids and teens it can be great for the entire family, especially as a fun activity you can do outside on a warm day. So get your cruiser skateboards and pack up the family, it’s time for some fun in the sun. You can go to a skate park or just skate down the beach side path and enjoy the day. It is a great physical activity that gets the blood pumping and gets you moving. The wind in your hair, great energy and occasional laughs, this can really be a great summer activity for the whole family to enjoy.
A game of tennis if you will
This is the perfect exercise and a great reason to get out of the house. An hour at a tennis court and a fresh cold lemonade afterwards is a great summer workout. You can play singles or doubles, just try not to do it in high noon. It can be quite exhausting but this is a great competitive sport that will help you get rid of all of the extra energy and on top of that provide you with a full body workout without you having to hit the gym. And if you are not a great tennis player, don’t let that stop you, just have a much fun as you can.
Don’t forget about volleyball
Especially beach volleyball during the summer. Sand, water and just a lot of fun. A great workout is a practical guarantee, but also some quality time with friends or family, and a lot of laughs. The best thing is you can easily cool down during or after matches. So gather you teammates and head out to the beach, volleyball is a great activity to get you out of the house, socializing and working out all at the same time. So why miss it.
A good hike
Hiking is a great day to spend a summer day, mix in some camping and you can have a few fun filled days in nature, away for the hectic city life. If you decide on this great activity make sure you pack enough water and food as a hike can be quite exhausting, even if you are surrounded by beautiful nature, it is still a proper workout. Especially if most of the route is uphill. Make sure you have the right shoes as a long hike can put quite a strain on your joints. Still, what better way to get some fresh air and get you out of the house.
Kayaking
In the end we come back to the water. Kayaking is a great sport for anyone who loves spending time on the water. You get a good workout, take time to enjoy the solitude and beautiful nature and the sheer sound of the waves hitting your kayak. What can be a better reason for getting out and spending some time under the summer sun? Of course keep in mind that kayaking should be done preferably early in the morning or evening, as the sun can be quite strong during mid-day.
You are now left without a single reason to stay at home during the summer as these activities are bound to keep you busy. You can mix them up, and do something else every day, as long as you are outside enjoying the benefits of great summer weather and fresh air.
