Are you a victim of excessive body fat? Have you tried regular exercising and careful diet and achieved nothing significant? Well, then you probably are in need of a liposuction treatment, and, I assume, that is what brings you here.
I’ll be sharing with you some important points on whether or not you can use liposuction as a weight loss treatment. These points don’t come from me; they come from experts and surgeons.
But first, let’s look at the procedure and some of its latest types.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat from different parts of the body.
It is a complicated procedure that uses a variety of tools and methods to suck out unwanted fat from where it is found in excess. During the procedure, a surgeon typically inserts a cannula in the skin and then uses tubes to move around under the skin. Depending on the type of technology being used, the fat deposits are burned and vacuumed out. Mostly, this procedure is carried out in the abdominal region, the buttocks, back, calves, ankles and the upper arms.
A liposuction is usually carried out for cosmetic reasons to improve the appearance of the body rather than treating a health issue. It is usually done to improve body contours by removing unwanted pockets of fat. However, it isn’t really a weight loss treatment to shed excess body fat.
Techniques Used for Liposuction
All liposuction techniques have the same goal: to remove excess fat deposits from the body. However, newer technologies have made this removal of fat safer, easier and less painful. They include the following.
Tumescent Liposuction: This is the most popular form of liposuction. It uses a local anesthetic before the procedure. A large amount of anesthetic solution, made of lidocaine and epinephrine, is first injected into the fatty tissues to numb the area and then a liposuction is carried out the traditional way. This makes the entire procedure pretty painless.
Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction: This technique uses ultrasound to liquefy the fat before it is removed from the body.
Also known as ultrasonic liposuction, the cannula in this procedure is energized with ultrasound. As soon as it comes in contact with the fat, the walls of the fat cells burst and they become liquefied. This makes it very easy for the fat to be sucked out.
Laser-assisted Liposuction: This is a far less invasive and bloody procedure than a traditional liposuction that uses laser energy to burn off excess fat before it is removed from the body. During the procedure, a surgeon inserts micro-cannula through small incisions made in the skin. This micro-cannula is then used to deliver laser energy into subcutaneous fat, causing heat that burns off the fat. After the procedure, the surgeon may leave the incisions open for excess fluid and blood to drain out from the body.
Can Liposuction Reduce Weight?
Understandably, when fat is removed from the body it does cause the body weight to go down, however, it is very important to note here that liposuction itself isn’t a solution for weight loss.
Liposuction is essentially carried out on people who have excess body fat in specific areas of the body and which doesn’t go away with regular exercising. It is used to remove fat deposits and lumps primarily from the waist, buttocks, thighs and upper arms. It can also be used on cheeks and the chest. However, it isn’t at all a weight loss program, nor is it a treatment for obesity.
You can only undergo a liposuction if you are in an otherwise good overall health, but have small fat deposits here and there on the body. The procedure will permanently remove these fat deposits and give your body a better contouring. In some cases, the liposuction may not be very smooth and you may notice slight depressions on the skin where the procedure is performed. However, choosing an expert surgeon for the procedure will ensure you stay clear of such troubles.
To ensure that you continue to enjoy the benefits of a liposuction treatment, you’ll have to exercise regularly even after the surgery. If you fail to maintain a healthy lifestyle, fat cells may re-emerge and the entire procedure may go in vain.
It is best to combine your liposuction with a healthy weight loss treatment in Dubai or elsewhere so that you better achieve the desired goals for your physical health. A liposuction cannot reduce your body weight significantly, but if you combine the procedure with a healthy lifestyle and regular exercising, you’ll gradually inch closer to achieving your ideal body weight. Thus, in short, a liposuction may not cause significant weight loss for you, but it can definitely help you achieve the desired weight—provided that you combine it with other healthy activities.
