Everyone knows what liposuction is: the quick and easy way to shave off a few pounds. All you need is a few thousand dollars and a certified doctor, plus the willingness to undergo an invasive surgical procedure. That’s not to say that liposuction doesn’t come highly recommended: thousands of people feel better about themselves than they ever have before as a result of this simple procedure.
But everybody could probably benefit from a little tucking now and then, and the surgeons who perform liposuctions are no different. This brings us to the latest innovation in the field: a laser-based, minimally-invasive procedure that, in addition to burning away fat like a liposuction, also improves collagen production in the skin, and tightens the collagen that is already there. This new procedure is called laser lipolysis and it has started gaining a lot of recognition.
The Back-story
There is a reason why all of that information is important – and not just to people with home subscriptions to medical journals. Liposuction is, of course, highly effective at what it does. The principle is simple: cut in, remove unwanted fat, and then patch the patient up and send them home. But it comes with a few notable drawbacks. Perhaps the most famous is the characteristically saggy skin that many patients can experience after a treatment. The skin hangs loose where once it bulged with fat – hardly an improvement at first. The body is a great healer of itself, so this shouldn’t be too much of a problem, except that in people with insufficient collagen, that tightening process never quite completes.
Lipolysis to the Rescue
Saggy skin tissue, among other problems, has kept a lot of people away from liposuction and other surgical fat treatments. This is where lipolysis – the newest treatment available – comes in handy. Not only does it automatically tighten skin collagen, thereby solving traditional liposuction’s problem elegantly but it also makes the body look toned and incredibly appealing without too much pain.
How it Works
Lipolysis uses fiber-optic cables to distribute heat over an affected area at a number of different wavelengths. This separates it from a liposuction which, true to its name, uses vacuum suction to get rid of fat cells. This means that, rather than opening up the skin and literally pulling out unwanted fat, this procedure actually melts the fat away, and tightens the layer of skin underneath without having to do any extra work.
But lipolysis, despite elegantly skipping over some of liposuction’s thornier problems, is actually not considered a replacement for the older procedure. Instead, researchers recommend the two in tandem, as this maximizes both the fat-loss and skin-tightening properties of both.
Researchers claim that they were able, in tests over 2,000 human beings in the course of three years, to consistently sculpt fat-free bellies and backsides with tight skin – making the person in question look automatically younger and fitter, immediately.
Bottom line
Of course, only your doctor can ultimately determine what course of treatment is right for you, and while both procedures are considered extremely low-risk, patients should be aware that any surgical procedure does come with some risks, no matter how good the physician or average the operation is. The best course of action is to know what you want, know what options exist for you, and to talk to your doctor about what the best course of action is for you and your body.
Laser lipolysis comes with fantastic benefits. And yet the procedure is not meant for everyone. Overweight or obese individuals are not advised to opt for this treatment. In their case, the amount of fat under the skin tissue is too abundant; this means that the surgeon won’t be able to remove it all. If, however, you have certain areas of your body that doesn’t respond to exercise and diet, then laser lipolysis might be exactly what you need. The ideal candidate should be in good health condition and have an average body weight.
Recommendations
Both liposuction and laser lipolysis are invasive surgical procedure. The ladder type is less painful, although it can be just as effective. Even if you choose to go under the knife and have extra fat removed from different areas of your body, it’s still important to pay attention to your lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle will assist with the recovery process. Include mild exercise on a daily basis and ditch junk food. Adhere to three meals per day and try to limit the amount of salt and sugar.
Laser lipolysis has proven to be a much better alternative to liposuction. However if you return to old lifestyle and you start eating bad food, the fat removed will go back in a matter of weeks. For the procedure to render the best results, a healthy regimen is fundamental.
